This weekend, June 6, 2015, I will not be attending the AIMS Farmers Market on Amherst Island. This is due to a farm-related errand that needs to be run that day: I’m picking up a greenhouse.
I’ve been watching Kijiji and other sites for a greenhouse for a long while now and this past week an ad appeared that was not only local, but extremely reasonably priced.
I am really excited about this addition to the farm. This greenhouse is 15′ x 72′ – slightly more than 1000′ square feet – and it will allow me to extend my growing season as well as expand my seedling operating in the spring of the year.
One of the challenges in our climate is having good produce ready for the early weeks of market. Since our local markets begin on the May long weekend (which was May 16th this year) there is barely time to get things in the ground, let alone have anything to harvest. This year we even had below freezing temperatures on the morning of the 24th of May.
Once its built check back and I’ll try to put up some pictures of the greenhouse. I’m not sure how much use it will get this season, but there’s till time.
See you next week.
Will miss seeing you at the market….but am so happy to hear the reason! Wonderful news! Will look forward to visiting the greenhouse
